From a Messy Living Room to a Better Way to Camp
Mogu Outdoors didn’t start in a boardroom or a warehouse. It started on our living room floor in Melbourne, surrounded by half-packed bags and two small kids running amuck while we tried to plan our next getaway.
We love the Australian bush, but we found ourselves hesitating to head out simply because the "standard" camping experience felt like so much work. We were tired of wrestling with heavy gear and complicated setups that took hours to get right. With the kids complaining, and us too exhausted to actually enjoy nature afterwards.
We looked for gear that was easy to use and created a comfy setup, but we couldn't find anything in the Australian market that hit that "sweet spot." Everything was either built for hardcore survivalists, single use bad quality gear, or so chunky and clunky you'd need an extra trailer to tow it all.
We just wanted something in between: gear that was easy, comfortable, and made the setup comfortable.
Drawing on a background in Visual and Usability Design, we decided to build it ourselves. We spent our nights at the kitchen table brainstorming and our weekends testing prototypes with our family across Victoria. We obsessed over making things "frictionless"—creating gear that works intuitively so you can get from "parked" to "relaxed" in minutes.
